The Mimosa is a cheerful and refreshing champagne cocktail that perfectly suits relaxed brunch moments and festive gatherings. With its bright citrus character and sparkling bubbles, this elegant classic has become a favourite for celebrations such as King's Day, Easter and sunny weekend mornings.
What is a Mimosa?
A Mimosa is a fresh and approachable cocktail made with orange juice and sparkling wine, most often champagne. Thanks to its light and fruity flavour, this cocktail is a popular choice for brunches, holidays and other festive moments.
The Mimosa became widely popular in the 1920s and is often served at occasions such as Easter, Mother’s Day and King’s Day. Its simple preparation and refreshing character make it an ideal cocktail for both beginners and champagne enthusiasts.
What do you need?
To make a classic Mimosa, you only need a small selection of fresh and fruity ingredients.
Ingredients
- 60 ml freshly squeezed orange juice (preferably without pulp)
- 60 ml chilled sparkling wine, such as champagne , prosecco or cava

Preparation
-
Preparation
Make sure both the orange juice and the sparkling wine are well chilled for the best result. -
Combine

Finish
Add a small splash of Cointreau for extra flavour. -
Garnish
Garnish with a thin slice of orange on the rim of the glass.
Serving tips
Ratio: A traditional Mimosa uses equal parts orange juice and sparkling wine. Feel free to adjust the ratio to suit your personal preference.
Variations: Experiment with other fruit juices, such as pomegranate or cranberry juice, for a refreshing twist.
Glassware: Use a flute glass whenever possible. This helps preserve the bubbles and creates an elegant presentation.
Which champagne works best in a Mimosa?
For a successful Mimosa, it is best to choose a fresh and approachable champagne. A brut champagne usually works best, as it is dry enough to stay nicely balanced with the naturally sweet character of orange juice.
